Wolverines no match for the REV

Wolverines No Match

The 2010 Wasatch REVolution are making a surge back to the top of the 2010 RMFL AAA standings after losing their opening day game to the Treasure Valley Spartans on April 10. Since that time, the REV have ripped off 3 wins in a row against mediocre RMFL competition. Last week the REV ripped off 49 points vs. the Bulldogs. This week, the REV ripped 49 off against the Wolverines – and pitched the shutout.

Despite an extremely slow start, the Wasatch REVolution were able to capitalize on Wolverine mistakes through out the game. The REV played their cleanest game of the season offensively. Defensively, the REV pitched the big “donut” and the Wolverines, once again, got pummeled by a far superior team.

It didn’t look like it would be a blow out as the Wolverines opening drive chipped 6 minutes off the clock and put themselves in position for an opening field goal. Unfortunately for them, LB Justin Walker got it to block his 2nd field goal on the season and the Wolves never had a scoring opportunity again.

Offensively the REV went “3 and out” on their first series and Golden Whetman boomed off a 43 yard punt, he wouldn’t punt again the rest of the game.

In the blink of an eye the 1st quarter was over and the REV were tied, 0-0.

Then, the lights came on! The defense forced a stop and RB Ryan Lang scored on a 3 yard TD plunge. After another REV defensive stop, QB Charlie Peterson scrambled and found an open Orlando Poloa down the middle of the field. As the pass barely cleared the fingertips of the Wolverines defender, Poloa hauled in a pass and pushed the “truck stick” button on his way to running over 2 Wolverine defenders as he scored from 42 yards out.

Once the momentum shifted heavily to the REV, there was no stopping the train. Stand out MLB Darin Smith shut down the Wolverines offense to get the ball back to the REV again, this time QB Charlie Peterson found TE Ryan Seely off play action for a 20-0 halftime score.

The REV offense got the ball to start the 2nd half and immediately marched down the field with another touchdown pass capped off by TE/WR Andy Hadfield. Hadfield used his height to get position on a 3rd and 19 completion for a TD.

After that, the wheels on the bus fell off for the Wolverines. DE Tracy Ita broke Wolverines QB Hans Hatchett in half on a poorly thrown pass and there was no more fight for the Wolves. A 32 yard TD strike from Peterson to WR James Owens put the REV up 33-0.

The REV defense would strike again as LB Clint Ackerman forced a fumble that was later recovered by a Wolverine lineman for a REV safety – their 1st on the season. “ACK” had a great chance to recover the fumble but like a greased pig, the football just couldn’t find a home in Ackerman’s gut. Otherwise, the REV would have scored a defensive touchdown.

With a “MERCY” rule clock speeding up the game, the REV had limited opportunities to score, but when they took possession of the ball – they did just that. WR Dave Christensen scored from 3 yards out when WR James Owens had a crushing block to allow slippery Dave to walk in the end zone. REV 42-0 at that point.

After 8 minutes disappeared off the clock, the REV threw a 37 yard TD pass to streaking 155 pound WR Miles Jones for the final touchdown of the day.

DB Ben Shapiro earned his first interception of the season and the game came to an end with the REVolution winning 49-0.
