 2010 Semi-Final Preview
2010 Semi-Final Preview

-June 23rd, 2010

#3 Wasatch REVolution @ #2 St. George Blitz

The St. George Blitz traveled to the Wasatch REVolution's house in South Jordan, Utah and beat them in a wacky game by a final score of 28-24.  This was AFTER the REV had a commanding 24-0 halftime lead.  The Blitz capitalized on costly turnovers and untimely errors by the REV that gave "gimme" scoring opportunities to the Blitz.

Neither offense did jack squat vs. the other in the 1st match up.  The stat line looks like this: 255 total yard and 2 TD's REV and 114 total yards and 2 TD's for the Blitz.

The difference in this game will be the Wasatch REVolution defense.  Did you know that the Wasatch REVolution defense led the league with only 71 points scored against it?  Here's the crazy part - the REV defense REALLY only gave up 6 total touchdowns the whole season.  That's 36 points.  Every other point was off of offensive turnovers that were "pick 6", "fumble returns for 6", or "shanked punts for 6" with all the associated PAT's as well.  Make no mistake, the St. George defense is outstanding.  The Blitz only allowed 90 points against them on the season..... it's just that, the REV defense is just that much better.  Led by defensive coordinator Ev Matagi, the REV defense dictates tempo which forces opponents into mistakes.

They say "defense wins championships" - the REV defense has SCORED 2x as many points as they've given up!  Chomp on that for a minute and try not to wipe your eyebrow and say, "What?!?"  In fact, the REV defense pitched 5 SHUT OUTS this season... that's right 5!!  5 out of 9 games opponents scored ZERO points.  Big fat donuts.  There's no question that the REV defense is #1.  They are the RMFL's version of the 1985 Chicago Bears defense.  Who can argue that point?

The KEY for the REVolution will be to LIMIT turnovers.  If the REV offense can do that, they don't have to score every possession... they just have to make the BLITZ offense earn their stripes.  I don't foresee a "Murphy's Law" loss for the REV this game.  ( http://wasatchrevolution.com/rev-lose-as-murphys-law-comes-to-fruition/ )

A key for the St. George Blitz will be personnel.  8 of their starters were NOT at the away game in South Jordan.  They'll be fired up and emotionally charged as the REV went down to St. George in 2009 and put a 48-0 shellacking on the Blitz.  Coach Greg Croshaw has too much pride to allow something like that to happen again.  He'll have his troops fired up and ready to hit and attack on every play.... will the REV answer the bell?

Emotions will be sky high in this game.  The Blitz will have a whomping crowd and they'll be rowdy.  The REV need to counter that high by playing smart, steady, consistent football.  TURNOVERS will be the difference in this game.  The REV defense has a chip on it's shoulder after losing to the Blitz in week 7.  The Blitz feel they can smack the REV around with their additional personnel for a home playoff game.

This will be a battle from start to finish.
